Chemical Week Magazine :: Basic Chemicals & Plastics Chlor-alkali Operating Rates Rise1:59 PM MST | March 11, 2011 Average U.S. chlor-alkali operating rates rose 7 percentage points in January 2011, to 92%, according to the latest statistics reported by the Chlorine Institute (Arlington, VA). Total chlorine production rose about 10.7% in January compared with December 2010. Chlorine gas production was higher by about 92,972 tons, to 1,049,138 tons, up 9.72%, from December. Liquid chlorine production rose by 92,187 tons, to 870,090 tons, or 11.85% higher than the year-ago period. Total chlorine production for January rose about 10% from January 2010, to 1,919,228 tons.
