Chemical Week Magazine :: Basic Chemicals & Plastics Chlor-Alkali Production Rises5:50 AM MST | January 27, 2012 Average U.S. chlor-alkali operating rates rose 4 percentage points in December, to 81%, according to the latest statistics reported by the Chlorine Institute (Arlington, VA). Total chlorine production increased about 7.5% in December compared with November. Chlorine gas production was higher by about 70,124 tons, to 932,186 tons, up 8.1% from November. Liquid chlorine production rose by 45,974 tons, to 729,148 tons, or 6.7% more than the month-ago period. Total chlorine production for December fell 4.2% from December 2010, to 1.6 million tons.
