Chlor-Alkali Production Rises

U.S. chlor-alkali operating rates rebounded in June, jumping 8 percentage points, to 89%, according to the most recent data from the Chlorine Institute (Arlington, VA). May’s 81% operating rates marked the chlor-alkali industry’s lowest production level of the year, on par with September and October 2009. The increase in June operating rates is encouraging, however, market watchers say. Chlorine production rose about 5.7% in June compared with May. About 54,318 tons more chlorine gas and 43,718 tons more liquid chlorine were produced, up about 5.9%...
