Chemical Week Magazine :: Basic Chemicals & Plastics Chlor-Alkali Operating Rates Decline6:58 AM MDT | November 4, 2011 | —LINDSEY BEWLEY Average U.S. chlor-alkali operating rates fell 4 percentage points in September, to 83%, according to the latest statistics reported by the Chlorine Institute (Arlington, VA). Total chlorine production decreased about 7.9% in September compared with August. Chlorine gas production was lower by about 69,154 tons, to 923,217 tons, down 6.9% from August. Liquid chlorine production fell by 73,281 tons, to 722,521 tons, or 9.2% less than the year-ago period.
