Chemical Week Magazine :: Basic Chemicals & Plastics Bayer Transitions Park to Specialties1:38 PM MDT | October 15, 2007 | Chemical Week Editorial Staff Bayer MaterialScience (BMS) says it has invested $23.5 million in its New Martinsville, WV commodity chemical plant to transition the site to a specialty chemicals facility and business park. The transition is part of a consolidation effort for methylene di-para-phenylene isocyanate (MDI) and toluene diisocyanate (TDI) in North America. BMS shut down its 160-million lbs/year MDI plant at the site last month. Half of the plant’s capacity was idled in 2001 (CW, Jan. 24, p. 23).
