BASF to Cut EU Polystyrene Production by 25%.

BASF says from October 1 it will slash production of polystyrene (PS) in Europe by 25%. “The reason for this step is the diminished demand for the standard plastic PS, a development that can be ascribed to the current economic downturn,” BASF says. BASF has a PS capacity of 620,000-m.t./year in Europe. The company indicated to CW that already it is not running its European PS plants at full capacity.   “The market for PS has shrunk in almost all customer sectors this year,” says Jaroslaw Michniuk, head of BASF’s Styrenics Europe...
