Asia styrene rockets on tight supply, imminent turnarounds

Recent plant outages and upcoming maintenance turnarounds have driven styrene prices in Asia to extraordinary highs, according to analysts at IHS Chemical. Derivative producers have passed on the price increases, but their margins remain poor, and many have reduced operating rates. A heavy turnaround schedule will take 12% of Asia’s styrene capacity off-line in September, according to IHS Chemical.
