Industrial action at Germany’s canal locks lifts petchem prices

Industrial action by canal lock workers could lift prices of petrochemical products transported on Germany’s inland waterways, market sources say. Ver.di (Berlin), a trade union, says it has appealed to the relevant government bodies to coordinate their actions, to achieve a prompt resolution to the dispute. But an agreement between the union and government bodies had not be reached by CW press time, and Ver.di says it has called another strike for 9–15 September. The industrial action is expected to hinder traffic along the Kiel Canal in particular...
