Hot weather supports PTA, midterm outlook mixed

European demand for purified terephthalic acid (PTA) increased during July as hot weather boosted sales of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) used for bottles. PTA demand in Asia also found supports in PET bottle consumption and polyester fiber consumption, according to IHS Chemical’s latest Market Advisory Service: Global PET Stream. The outlook for PTA remains uncertain in Europe. The medium-term outlook in Asia supports current PTA price levels, but lower prices are anticipated for next year, IHS Chemical says.
