Capacity fell in the United States by about 9%, and in Europe by 4–5%, according to a recent report by IHS Chemical, and supply tightened quickly as the global economy recovered in 2010. Feedstock prices multiplied over the same period, with natural rutile increasing from about $500/m.t. in 2010 to about $2,500/m.t. in early 2012. As a result, TiO2 prices rose 35% in 2011.
