EU polymers production falls, drags down EU output

Production of chemicals decreased 2.4% in the European Union (EU) in the first seven months of 2012 compared with the same period in 2011, Cefic says. Production fell by 2.2% year-on-year in the month of July, driven by the 5.8% decline in production in the polymers subsector, Cefic says. July production of petrochemicals decreased 2.7% year-on-year. EU chemicals output in  the first seven months of 2012 was 5.9% below peak levels reached in 2007. Prices for chemicals in the EU, however, went up 1% in July, compared with the corresponding period of 2011...
