The CW75 Index rose about 1% for the week ending October 30, in line with the Morgan Stanley global composite index. The Standard and Poor’s 500 index rose 1.9%. Basic chemical shares increased 2.8%. Diversified chemical stocks were flat, and specialty chemical shares rose about 1%. MEMC topped the leaders’ list because third-quarter profits jumped 66%, to $151.5 million, and the company raised its fourth-quarter sales estimates.
