Fertilizer and agricultural chemical firms advanced 4% on a strong rally for commodity stocks at the end of 2010. Basic chemical shares saw a 1.7% gain, while diversified shares were flat and specialty shares declined 0.3%. Some 43 companies held flat or posted gains, 32 posted declines. American Vanguard posted the strongest gain for the week, up 11.5% on very heavy trading volume on the last two trading days of the year. PotashCorp was up 8.3% as fertilizer stocks rallied.
