UK chemical industry welcomes government boost to shale gas development

The UK chemical industry has welcomed a package of measures announced by the UK government to boost the country's fledgling shale gas industry. UK Chancellor of the Exchequer George Osborne, in his 2013 budget, announced yesterday, said that the government would introduce tax allowances for investments in the shale sector, ensure that local communities benefit from shale gas projects, and accelerate the provision of planning guidance for local authorities in areas where exploratory drilling is planned.
