Shell's chemical volumes decline, new CEO sets group agenda

Shell today reported its fourth-quarter group results and new CEO Ben van Beurden, who until recently was in charge of chemicals, set priorities for the group. Chemical sales volumes in the fourth quarter were down 5%, to 4.41 million m.t. Chemical sales volumes in full-year 2013 declined by 7% compared with 2012, mainly as a result of accounting policy changes and contract expiry, partly offset by higher trading volumes. Sales volumes in 2013 were 17.4 million m.t. Chemicals manufacturing plant availability increased to 92% from 91% in 2012, reflecting improved...
