Regions :: Western Europe :: U.K. Lonza to Close U.S. and U.K. Plants7:55 AM MST | January 13, 2010 | Nancy Seewald Lonza says it will close facilities at Conshohocken, PA; Shawinigan, PQ; and Wokingham, U.K. later this year as part of an initiative to move small molecule production closer to Asia. The closures are also related to a plan announced in October 2009 to reduce fixed costs by CHF 60-80 million ($59 million-$78 million) in the next two years. The company said at that time that it would eliminate a total of about 450 jobs, or 5% of its workforce, under the initiative. About 175 employees will be affected by the closures, Lonza says.
