BASF to cut 650 jobs, close UK pigments plant, restructure others

BASF today announced a restructuring plan for its pigments business, with a planned reduction of 650 jobs by 2017. The company says this will strengthen the competitiveness of its pigments operation. The plan includes the closure of the Paisley, UK, plant and the restructuring of the Huningue, France, plant. In addition, BASF is examining strategic options for the Maastricht, Netherlands, site.   The company will, at the same time, invest €250 million ($343.9 million) in the next four years in its production network as well as in R&D.
