Syngenta Earnings Rise, Cautious on 2009

Syngenta says 2008 net income rose 25%, to $1.38 billion, on strong demand for seeds and crop protection products. Sales rose 21%, to $11.6 billion. Earnings per share (EPS) rose 42%, to $16.26, excluding restructuring and impairment charges. Strong growth in demand for food and feed in emerging markets contributed to the increases, the company says. Emerging markets now account for more than one-third of overall sales, it says.
