Sabic, Swiss firm create lightweight thermoplastic composite wheel

Sabic and Kringlan Composites (Otelfingen, Switzerland) have been working on a thermoplastic composite wheel prototype for a German automotive manufacturer, leveraging Sabic’s proprietary Ultem-branded resin and Kringlan’s proprietary, 3-D composite design capabilities, Sabic announced today. This lightweight wheel is the first of its kind, Sabic says. The companies seek to create a material that can be used to replace traditional materials, such as metal and aluminum alloy, helping reduce weight and emissions and potentially save manufacturing costs...
