Clariant Swings to Profit; Warns of Rising Costs and Fragile Recovery

Clariant reported first-quarter net income of SF10 million, compared to a loss of SF91 million in the year-ago period. Sales jumped 13%, to SF1.8 billion because of improved economic condition, but "sales were still clearly behind pre-cris levels," the company says. Sales increased across all business units and regions, Clariant says. Ebit before exceptional items was SF183 million, compared to a SF13-million loss.
