BASF Licenses Next-Generation Lithium Battery Technology from Clariant Affiliate

BASF says it has signed a long-term deal to license the rights to produce lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery materials from LiFePO4+C Licensing (Muttenz, Switzerland), an affiliate of Clariant-subsidiary Süd-Chemie. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. LFP, is a novel cathode material with high energy performance and a strong safety profile, which has a potential for use in next-generation lithium ion batteries in products such as hybrid automotives and portable electronics.
