Dow to Shutter Netherlands EG Capacity

Dow Chemical says it will stop producing ethylene glycol (EG) at its Terneuzen, the Netherlands ethylene oxide (EO)/EG production site. The site has the capacity to produce 163,000 m.t./year of EO and 130,000 m.t./year of EG. An efficiency improvement project starting in 2009 will enable a 22% increase in EO production capacity at the site, Dow says. “As significant EG capacity additions are scheduled to come online in Asia and the Middle East, the EG market is expected to experience a surplus by mid-2009,” says Lee Christens, global business...
