Dow Shutters EG and Plans EO Capacity Increase in Netherlands

Dow Chemical says it will stop producing ethylene glycol (EG) at its Terneuzen, the Netherlands ethylene oxide (EO)/EG production site by year-end. A plant upgrade scheduled to go online in early 2009 will enable a 22% increase in EO production capacity at the site, Dow says. The site currently has a capacity of 163,000 m.t./year of EO and 130,000 m.t./year of EG. Terneuzen: Dow switches site to EO-only production to support polyurethanes growth. “Significant EG capacity additions” coming online in Asia and the Mideast are expected to create a surplus...
