DSM Acquires U.S. Biotech R&D Firm, Microbia

DSM has announced the acquisition of Microbia Inc. (Lexington, MA) from Ironwood Pharmaceuticals. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. Microbia is an industrial biotechnology R&D firm with only limited sales. It has developed a "highly effective" technology platform for the production of high-quality natural carotenoids, including beta-carotene and canthaxanthin, as well as nutritional products and other specialty materials and chemicals from renewable resources.
