BASF, Purac Form JV to Commercialize Bio-Based Succinic Acid Process

BASFand Purac (Diemen, the Netherlands), a subsidiary of CSM, have announced the start of negotiations to form a joint venture for the production of bio-based succinic acid. The companies have been conducting research under a joint development agreement on bio-based succinic acid since 2009.  The jv plans to set up a 25,000-m.t./year fermentation plant at Purac’s site near Barcelona, Spain, which would start up by 2013, at the latest, says Gerard Hoetmer, CEO of CSM.
