AkzoNobel Swings to a Net Loss on Restructuring Charges, Raw Material Costs

AkzoNobel reported a net loss of €62 million for the fourth quarter of 2011 compared with a €130-million net profit one year earlier, on sales up 5% year on year, to €3.8 billion. The net profit figure includes one-off charges totaling €97 million including quarterly restructuring costs of €55 million. Ebitda fell 20% year on year in the fourth quarter due to higher raw material costs, to €301 million and Ebitda margins decreased to 7.9%, from 10.4%.
