Financial terms of the deals were not disclosed. Akzo, meanwhile, reported a decline in first-quarter earnings. Akzo says that its Eka Chemicals pulp and paper chemical business plans to buy H.C. Starck’s silica sol unit Levasil (Leverkusen). Levasil supplies silica sol as a raw material mainly to European paper, electronics, and construction companies.
