Versalis to close UK plant this quarter as part of downsizing of petchems portfolio

Versalis (Milan), the chemicals subsidiary of Italy’s energy major ENI (Rome) will close its synthetic rubbers plant at Hythe, UK during this quarter, according to Paolo Scaroni, CEO of ENI. Speaking last week at the group’s results review, Scaroni said that the company has “reacted to the economic slowdown that impacted the automotive sector, specifically tires, by reducing our exposure to elastomers [and] announcing the closure of Hythe in the first quarter of 2014, so this quarter.” Versalis announced in November that it would...
