Regions :: Western Europe :: Italy Novamont Advances Biobased BDO Project with Genomatica2:41 PM MST | January 11, 2012 | Peter Mapleston Novamont (Novara, Italy), the producer of Mater-Bi biodegradable plastics made mostly from corn, expects to start producing 1,4-butanediol (BDO) from renewable resources from about mid-2013. The company announced this week that, under a previously announced partnership with Genomatica (San Diego), it would convert a plant that Novamont is acquiring from BioItalia at Adria, Italy to use Genomatica technology. Capacity for biobased BDO will be about 20,000 m.t./year and all of the converted plant's output will be for captive use by Novamont. The BioItalia plant...
