EFSA report concludes fipronil poses risk to bees

The insecticide fipronil poses a high acute risk to honeybees when used as a seed treatment for corn, the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA; Parma, Italy) concludes in a report requested by the European Commission. EFSA was asked to perform a risk assessment of fipronil, in particular on the acute and chronic effects on bee-colony survival and development, and the effects of sub-lethal doses on bee mortality and behavior.
