SGL Group Posts Higher First-Quarter Sales but Lower Profits

SGL Group (Wiesbaden, Germany) says sales for the first quarter of 2012 increased 5% year over year, to €382 million ($503 million), driven by the performances of the graphite materials and systems, and carbon fibers and composites business units. Net profits and Ebit each decreased, by 5.4% and 0.3% in the first quarter of 2012, mostly because of wider losses at the carbon fibers and composites segment, and due to higher tax expenses, to €14.1 million and €36.2 million, respectively, SGL says.
