Nylon-12 Shortage to Impact Global Automotive Production

The deadly explosion and fire that struck Evonik Industries' cyclododecatriene (CDT) plant at Marl, Germany on March 31, 2012 has created a shortage of the derivative nylon-12, a resin that is essential for the manufacture of coatings and connector applications for braking systems and fuel handling for the automotive industry, says Tim Urquhart, an analyst at IHS Automotive.
