Germany's chemical R&D budget soars past €10 billion

The combined research budget of Germany's chemical industry soared to a record €10.5 bilion ($14.0 billion) in 2013, more than 8% higher than in the previous year, industry association VCI (Frankfurt) says. Andreas Kreimeyer, chairman of VCI's committee for research, science, and education—and a BASF board member—announced the figure at a press conference at Frankfurt today.
