Germany warns of need to step up efforts to combat climate change

Germany could fail to meet its target of a 40% reduction in carbon dioxide emissions by 2020, the German government says. “With the measures implemented to date, we will attain a level of only about 33%, depending on the development of the economy,” Barbara Hendricks, federal minister for the environment and construction, warned at the fourth Berlin climate protection conference, held  this week. “We need to make additional efforts in order to plug the gaps.
