German biomass-to-liquids pilot plant reaches synthesis stage

The Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT; Karlsruhe, Germany) has successfully started the synthesis stage of its Biomass to Liquid Karlsruhe (Bioliq) pilot plant, the institute has announced. The project, in cooperation with Chemieanlagenbau Chemnitz (Chemnitz, Germany) will now be completed by testing the entire process chain and optimizing it for large, industrial scale, KIT says. The pilot plant will supply high-quality fuel from straw, as soon as all of the stages of the process have been linked. This is expected to happen by mid-2014.  Plant design...
