Bayer's Fourth-Quarter Profits Surge, but MaterialScience's Growth Stalls

Bayer has recorded a net income of €397 million ($533 million) for the fourth quarter of 2011, compared with a net loss of €145 million for the period a year earlier, on sales up 2% to €9.2 billion. Ebitda for fourth quarter 2011 was down 6.3% to €1.4 billion when compared with the same period a year earlier. The company says its full year 2011 net income increased 89.9% to €2.47 billion on sales up 4.1% to €36.5 billion when compared with 2010.
