AkzoNobel to Buy Silica Sol Unit; Organic Peroxide Lines

AkzoNobel says it has signed two agreements to acquire specialty chemical businesses in Europe and Asia. Akzo says its Eka Chemicals pulp and paper chemicals business has agreed to buy H.C. Starck’s silica sol unit Levasil (Leverkusen). Levasil supplies silica sol as a raw material to mostly European paper, electronics, and construction markets. Levasil produces about 30,000 m.t./year of silica sol, Akzo says. Separately, Akzo says it plans to purchase two organic peroxide product lines from Jiangsu QiangSheng (Changshu City, China).
