Total under Investigation over 2009 Cracker Explosion

Total Petrochemicals France, and the former site manager of the company's Carling, France petrochemicals complex, are being investigated for alleged manslaughter and involuntary injury over the July 2009 explosion at the Carling site's No. 1 steam cracker. The blast killed two people and injured six. Total confirms that a judge in the city of Metz, France put the company under formal investigation on June 6. Further details were not disclosed.
