Regions :: Western Europe :: France Solvay Replaces Mercury Cells at French Chlor-Alkali Plant at a Cost of $115 Million7:04 AM MST | November 10, 2010 | Alex Scott Solvay says it will replace a mercury-based electrolysis system with a membrane-based system at the company's two chlor-alkali installations at Tavaux, France. Chlor-alkali capacity at the Tavaux complex will stay at 360,000 m.t./year. The conversion is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2012 at a cost of €83 million ($115 million). The conversion will reduce energy consumption at the complex by 25% and considerably improve the environmental footprint of the site by reducing direct and indirect carbon dioxide emissions, the company says. ...
