Regions :: Western Europe :: France Arkema Wins Appeal Against Antitrust Fine6:29 AM MDT | June 7, 2011 | Natasha Alperowicz Arkema today won an appeal against a €219.1 million ($319.8 million) European Union antitrust fine for fixing the price of methacrylates after a court decided that the penalty was excessive. The EU General Court (Luxembourg) reduced the 2006 fine imposed by the European Commission on Arkema and its units for participating in a cartel to €113.3 million. The original fine had been calculated on the basis of the worldwide sales of Total SA, which was Arkema’s parent company at the time, along with Elf Aquitaine. The court upheld the fines levied on...
