French chemical industry calls for a national gas strategy to meet challenge of US shale

France's chemical industry association UIC (Paris) has called on the country's government to adopt a wide-ranging national gas strategy to help French industry meet the competitive challenge posed by shale gas in the United States. The appeal follows publication of a study by carbon strategy consulting firm Carbone 4 (Paris), commissioned by UIC, which concludes that 10,000 chemical industry jobs could be lost in France and 32 chemical production sites could close, as a result of the massive build-up of advantaged shale-based  petrochemical capacity in the...
