Arkema presents plan to close plasticizer site in France

Arkema says it presented a plan late last week to its central works council to cease activities at the company's Chauny, France site. Production at the Chauny site will cease in March 2014, under the terms of the plan, Arkema says. The Chauny site, part of Arkema's acrylic monomers business unit, produces phthalic anhydride, di(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate—also known as dioctyl phthalate (DOP)—and fumaric acid, which are used primarily in the manufacture of polyester resins and alkyd resins for paints and in the plasticized polyvinyl chloride...
