Kemira adds alkylketene dimer emulsion capacity in Finland

Kemira says it will open a new alkylketene dimer (AKD) emulsion line at Joutseno, Finland, to better serve big sizing clients. The new capacity will be available during fall 2013. AKD is a sizing agent that impacts paper and board hydrophobicity or water resistance, Kemira says. Sufficient hydrophobicity is important for packaging materials, and it improves paper or board runnability in a coating process; water resistance also improves printability and dimension stability of the final product during the conversion process, Kemira...
