Cefic says it is pushing for a series of concessions for the chemical industry in relation to the next phase of the European Union’s (EU) cap-and-trade Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS), which will come into effect from 2013. Unlike the current ETS system of free emissions allowances, the next phase will require producers of certain chemicals to purchase their emissions allowance via auctions.
