The speculation follows Solvay's announcement in September that it has agreed to sell its pharmaceuticals business to Abbott Laboratories for €4.5 billion. Solvay says it plans to reinvest proceeds from the divestment in the company's chemicals and plastics businesses, and analysts say Solvay may use the funds to make a major acquisition.
