Parliament Panel Agrees to Scale Back EU Biofuels Goal

The European Parliament’s Industry and Energy Committee voted 50-2 to scale back the European Commission’s previously announced plans to make renewable sources account for 5% of transport fuel consumed in the European Union (EU) by 2015, and 10% by 2020. Committee lawmakers approved the renewable sources mandate but added language that would require a major mid-term review of its feasibility.
