European Commission starts consultation on sustainable use of phosphorus

The European Commission says it has launched a consultation on how to use phosphorus—widely used in agriculture and an essential component in fertilizer and animal feed—in a more sustainable way. Supply is limited, the price has been volatile, much is wasted, and there is no substitute. As a result, there are concerns about the cost and availability of future supplies.
