Europe Rejects Appeal for Use of Azinphos-methyl Pesticide

The European Court of Justice rejected an appeal by pesticides manufacturer Makhteshim-Agan (Airport City, Israel) to overturn a 2006 European Union (EU) ban on the use of the pesticide azinphos-methyl (AZM). Mackhteshim has been ordered to pay undisclosed costs accrued by the European Commission in defending the lawsuit. The use of AZM in the U.S. is permitted on fruit crops through 2012 and on nut crops through 2009.
