BASF opens plant biotechnology research facility in Belgium

BASF says it has opened a new facility for plant biotechnology research at Ghent, Belgium, with its agricultural biotech subsidiary CropDesign moving into a new wing of the Bio-Accelerator building in Technologiepark Ghent. The new facility includes labs and offices, a technical area, and a rooftop greenhouse for rice research and product development. CropDesign was founded in 1998 as a spin-off from the Flanders Institute for Biotechnology (VIB; Ghent) and the University of Ghent.
