Regions :: Western Europe :: Belgium BASF Restarts Antwerp Cracker; Ludwigshafen Due Online in February2:55 AM MST | January 4, 2010 | Natasha Alperowicz BASF says it restarted its 1 million m.t./year ethylene plant at Antwerp at the beginning of this year. The unit was taken off line on December 20th following a fire, which was caused by a leakage in a naphtha pipeline, the company says. In addition to ethylene, the Antwerp cracker is designed to produce 650,000 m.t./year of propylene. Separately, BASF says that its experts are working on a plan to restart the smaller of its two ethylene plants at Ludwigshafen, Germany which suffered a fire on December 23rd.
